Ask...Answer...

I've been following your blog - and love it.  I have a quick fashion question - and I've been googling/pinteresting/magazing and can't find the answer.  I thought maybe you could help.  I have a couple pairs of straight jeans that I love but cannot figure out how to wear them into fall/winter. One in particular are too bunchy to go into boots - but I don't want to go sockless with flats this winter...

Any suggestions?

Thanks! Missy
(a dedicated reader)

Missy,
It's all about the oxford or a loafer.  The key to finding a shoe that works with straight jeans is wearing a silhouette that covers the top of your foot.  You need this in the shoe because the cut of the denim won't cover your foot.  An oxford/loafer is different than a ballet flat where the entire top of the foot is exposed, which why socks looks silly when worn with a flat.  You see too much of the sock, and that makes your foot look wider than it really is and creates a frumpy look.
Here I chose to go with the oxford, one with no heel and one with a heel.  In both outfits I am wearing sock so my tooties don't freeze in the Minnesota winter, but you can barely see them if at all!

On-Line Find...

Fall is my favorite season!  As the weather turns crisp and the leaves begin to change, I am more than ready to start sipping on pumpkin lattes, seeking out the best butternut squash soup recipes, and of course, slipping into my latest pair of boots. There is nothing quite like a good pair of those leather goodies!

More than any other foot covering, the boot seems so multi-functional and timeless.  This of course making it easy to justify purchasing them at any cost. That being said, it is rare that I will have an extra $200 to spring on the perfect pair, mostly because I like to have one practical pair in multiple colors and a couple of fun pairs for dressing up.  I don't have the money in my wallet or the room in my closet for all of those...

Thankfully, there’s the internet!

A couple of years ago, when the exposed zipper became a “thing,” I went scouring the internet to find a specific pair of boots that had gone flying off the shelf at Hot Mama.  Though it took me some time, I finally stumbled across these beauties at gojane.com.  While I wasn’t initially sold on the color they have been totally versatile and remain my “go-to” pair of boots to wear with any outfit.  Just your luck, Gojane still sells these exact boots along with lots of other cute options similarly priced at around $40.

Gojane isn’t the only one riding the affordable boot train. Another great site with tons of options is urbananog.com.  Currently, if you spend over $60 on Gojane or $50 on urbanog.com you qualify for free shipping!  One more tip: always Google the website name and “coupon code.”  Often times an online store won’t openly advertise a promotion but will have something usable floating around in cyberspace.  Happy shopping!

Until Next Time!

Introducing...

It's a big day for Life In Fashion With Lindaisy.  Today I am introducing our first ever "on staff" contributor, Karin Pecchia!  Karin has been one of my closest gal pals since college. (And that's Care-In not Car-In, just a little help with pronouncing her name.)  We were roommates for 3 years and have been soul mates every since.  Karin has a style that is impeccable and expresses who she is every moment she can.  She has a knack for finding the perfect piece at the perfect price to make her perfect style.  Her ability to be a savvy on-line shopper is what has brought her to the team of this blog!  I am excited to have her share her tips and tricks for on-line shopping with you on Fridays.

Karin lives in Woodbury, MN with her amazing husband John and two cutie girls Jemma (3 yrs) and Ruby (4 mo).  Her family also has started a new adventure with building their business Welcome Home Productions.  I love the Pecchia family dearly and I know you will too!

Tune in tomorrow and read Karin's first post about her romance with her favorite pair of boots and how she found them at what has become one of her favorite on-line shops.

Addicted...

You are probably thinking when I say the word addicted I am talking about my boots.  I do wear them in a blog post about once a week and in real life about every other day.  So I guess I am slightly addicted to these gems, which you can be too!  The shopping link today list them at only $29.99, it would sinful not to get them for your wardrobe...

What I am talking about though is my addiction to Diet Coke!  I think it would safe to say that about 90% percent of women can relate to this.  Diet Coke is ruling the female race as we know it.  I only buy my drug when it's on sale but then when I don't have any in the house you can find at the nearest McDonald's drive-thru getting it off the dollar menu.  Because for real, they have the best fountain DC!

That would be my situation right now, I have none in the house.  Busy as usual yesterday putting together marketing materials for Fashion Fix, taking picture for the blog, and catching up on what is going on at the malls around here.  I found it to be 3pm and needed to get to my nanny gig realizing no DC yet... No McDonald's on the way and couldn't be late to gymnastics!  Then a light shinned in the lobby, they are selling cans of DC for 75 cents...and they are sold out!  It's okay though my next stop would have a vending machine...that is broken!  Wait I'll survive...my next stop would have a vending machine...working!  I load my quarters, the bottle drops, I crack it open for a sip and....yuck!  I had expired in January of this year.

At least I had this cute outfit on yesterday!

Surprise...

You are going to love this!  I am sure it's no surprise that like most women I am a planner.  I like to know what I am doing, when I am doing it, and most importantly what I am going to be wearing when doing it.  All of this information is needed about a month in advance.

Ok...I am giving my self some grace because if I am going to be honest I have had an outfit picked for a wedding I am going to in January since September.  No lie, just ask my man friend.  I sure he would first shake his head at the question and then tell you it's true.  I like to believe my outfit planning obsession is what makes me good at what I do.  And if you don't already know what I do you can check it out here.

I did the unthinkable this past weekend, I gave up control of the planning.  Gasp, shock and awe!  I thought it would healthy for me, and for my man friend who could use a dose of having to plan.  I gave him only one piece of direction, take me on a date!  Beyond that...nothing.  He tried to get an opinion out of me but I wouldn't budge.  I didn't want to know where, what or even what I should wear.  All I needed to know was when to be ready.  So how does someone who has to have the perfect outfit for every occasion dress for this.

For the inquiring minds he did GREAT, and so did I!  He surprised me with a membership to the Science Museum of Minnesota and we caught a late show in the Omnitheater.  After that we had a tasty bite to eat at a local microbrewery downtown.

Get Hung Up...

Each week as I work with clients I learn something new that ladies these days are struggling with.  Obstacles with either how to wear their wardrobe or keep it looking clean and organized.  I get excited to see what common thread pulls us all together.  Someday I think I would like to have a meet and greet with my clients so that they can see they are not alone in how Fashion Fix (link here) helps them out.  But that is what we do as women right...  We think that everyone else has it together and we don't, false!  If you don't believe it check out Wednesday's blog (link here), I don't have it together.

What we need to do is  help each other with a little accountability and great ideas!  So here's mine for the weekend.  A small easy project that will change the way your closet looks and help you feel more organized.

Change your hangers!  We try to find all the new fancy ways to make things look more put together and overlook the easy ones.  Whatever style you want to use that's fine, just make it a 100%.  I am a fan of the white plastic hangers from Target (buy here).  They're inexpensive and like plating a fine dinner your clothes will stand out on the white background.  This will cost you less than $50, take an hour of your day, and reward with accomplishment.

Get It Going...!

This week I have started to feel the pressure.  Since I left my job about a month ago and started my own business (Fashion Fix LLC) I have been on a high.  All day and all night my mind has been racing with ideas of making this venture happen.  The wheels are constantly spinning and I am finding my self not able to fall asleep at night, talk to much business to my man friend, fill my days with busy work (for no pay right now), and spend countless hours at the computer doing research.  For the first couple weeks this was exhilarating!!!!!!  I felt like I was making it happen and pursuing my dreams.  Then, splat!

My personal life has begun to look like to pictures I have included below.

My exploded closet all over my bedroom...

(Confession, there are 3 bins of clothes in my car waiting to come in from the laundromat.)

 My bin of unread books...
My pile of unused workout shoes...

I don't often do this with the general public but I felt this level of vulnerability is needed, mostly for my sake.

Really...I am a closet organizer extraordinaire.  People pay me to manage their wardrobe and this is how mine looks.  Really...I at one time organized and hosted book clubs.  Now I can't find time to read past one chapter of a book.  Really...I have run multiple marathons and have a gym membership.  At the moment my ailing back won't let me do much.  Well enough is enough, I need to get to reality and realize my limits.  I am starting a new business, and life will not look like how it has before.  I need to come to terms with that and find grace for my self in these times.  I am sure a lot of you can relate.   So here is what I am going to do, stop having to be 100% or perfect at it all.

1. I am going to spend at least some time everyday putting my closet back together.
2. I am joining a book club that I don't have to be in charge of.
3. I am making a standing walking date with a girlfriend each week.

I am sharing all this with the understanding that "it takes a village".  I need accountability.  I am also sharing because one you is feeling like you are in the same boat for whatever reason and I hope you can find comfort in knowing I am there with you!

Mood Boost Monday...

I don't know about you gals but sometimes when it gets to Saturday I am pooped out on what to wear.  And the thought of putting on a pair of restricting pants just about kills me.  I like to be in what I refer to as comfies as much as possible Saturday and Sunday.  Most of the time you won't see me in anything but black stretchy pants.  I love them so much they creep their way into my Monday thru Friday wardrobe.  My fav are the loved J.Crew leggings seen here.

But sometimes I got stuff going on where yoga pants just won't cut it.  This weekend I had a personal shopping appointment with a client, a meeting with my graphic designer, and was striking deal with someone to sell some goods.  I needed to look the part while still being Saturday casual.  While shopping my closet I stumbled onto a great buy I had made on a whime for $8.  Well here was their time to play...the military cargo!

These pants have won their spot in the weekend line up because they are light weight, loose in the leg and have an elastic waist while still having a button and zipper!  I know...right...how much do you want these.  You can be comfy while still amazingly cute while you are at the farmer's market, brunch, the morning soccer game, or a coffee date with a friend.

Friday Feast...

Okay Okay...I have to make a confession to my readers.  Since entering into this relationship with my man friend there is a new color that pumps through my veins.  And that color is....

VIKINGS PURPLE!!!!!!!

What can a girl say, I love lounging around a Sunday afternoon watching the game while he is using choice words when bad calls are made and I am getting excited when our defense takes down the opposing QB.  Now don't get me wrong, during these Football Sundays there is a good amount of Pinterest going on with the iPad and a lot of fashion magazine reading during lulls in the game.  I know I am not the only girl out there with this conversion in her life when a romeo enters the picture.  One of my best gal pals is now celebrating her birthday this year with a Vikings Football party when they play the Buccaneers on a Thursday night game.  What I have loved about this new pastime is that it has me given another fashion challenge.

I know right, only I can turn sports mania into something fashion related.  But hello, I have to have cute go to Vikings outfit!  Even the professionals have recognized the rise in women sports fans when the NFL launched their women's apparel line.  This morning was when I got put to the test and we went to see Paul Allen, the voice of the Minnesota Vikings at Buffalo Wild Wings in the Mall of America.  His Nine to Noon show was broadcasting live and I had to be picture ready!

You may also know PA from his famous line "...We're Racing..." when you are playing the ponies at Canterbury.

Back...Out...

I have been trying to stay on a predictable blogging schedule, Monday-Wednesday-Friday.  I missed my post this week on Wednesday because we had an interesting situation when I arose from my slumber on Tuesday.  I COULDN'T MOVE!!!!  I was completely immobilized.  I couldn't sit up, turn over, lift my legs, nothing with out feeling like there wasn't a knife in my lower back turning and pushing in deeper.  I had to call my man friend to come and help me out of bed, (which took a half an hour) and help me to the bathroom!

Thankfully my man friend is a complete HERO, and he Googled the crap out of lower back spasm, you tubed video on how to relieve knots, and put me on a regimen of ice/heat/walking/back rubs.  It was pretty funny as I was walking with a homemade cane and couldn't sit down with out help.   I cried, laughed and had some extreme vulnerability with man friend.

All of this to be told so I could still share with you my favorite fashionable lounging around on sick day clothes!

Seriously, how do you not want cuddle up with your self in this cardi!

Making it Happen...

Sometime when I see just the right outfit on Pinterest I leap from my computer, race to my closet and start pulling the pieces together.  When I am missing an essential element it breaks my heart because this girl is already squishing her clothes to fit in her closet.  But....if I can get something at the right price or for the right deal it just might work!

I was inspired to find this outfit for the girl on a budget...which I am.  I love it because skinny colored pants in for yet another season and they are everywhere for every body!
